TGIF

Since we don't have TGIF anymore, you know Full House and Family Matters? Oh and Perfect Strangers! Who didn't love Balki? I thought I would give you a good laugh!

Now my Mom will tell you and my Dad will tell you, singing was NEVER my first love. There was something else that would make me break out the Janet Jackson cassette tape or the Breakin' Soundtrack, along with my big, gigantic, ginormous JAM BOX. It was dancing y'all!

I'm pretty much an open book but a lot of people do not know how much I LOVE to dance. Well, my kids know. It may sound super insane or totally crazy but when I can't run because of weather or because Jeremy doesn't get home in time, I dance. Oh how I wish I had the Dance Revolution game in my home! I would probably be in front of the TV doing it daily! And yes, sometimes I day dream of Tom Bergeron or Bruno showing up at my door in the middle of me changing a diaper to tell me I've been chosen to be a contestant on Dancing with Moms, I mean STARS! The spray tan, the costumes, the workout, the lights, wow! LOVE IT!

So it should come to no surprise that I was one of those girls at Slumber parties always saying, "Let's make up a dance!". And I was totally, 100%, obsessed with Janet Jackson! My Control and Rhythm Nation cassette tapes were played so many times they eventually gave out! And remember when I was in 5th 6th and 7th grade, I lived with my Dad and did not have a whole lot of female influence on my life. My Dad never knew that I was constantly dancing because he was never around so you can imagine the faces of the teachers and principles when I auditioned for a talent show in elementary dancing and lip syncing to NASTY BOYS! Now do you all understand why I absolutely adore the movie Little Miss Sunshine??? If you have not seen it and decide to watch it, you will understand. My dance was not quite like Olive's but I can laugh now because just as Olive was totally innocent, so was I. (Yes, my fellow Christians, the language in the movie is pretty raw but it is a fabulous film). I had no clue the song, Nasty Boys, was inappropriate but I knew I was good at dancing and lip syncing. After all, I memorized Janet's dance from the video! One of the parents on the judging panel, the panel that decided who to choose for part of the show, knew that I had no clue so he told me, "We think you are amazing Amanda and you will probably win the show (They called it Puttin' on the Hits) but these teachers are a bunch of sticks in the mud and they need you to change the song." He was the Dad of my friend, Pepper, and he felt sorry for me, I am positive of that. :) So I chose to change the song and dance to Belinda Carlisle's Heaven Is A Place On Earth. She was another obsession of mine! :) Well, guess what? I won!

So tonight as the kids and I were dancing and sweating, I decided that if I was in 6th grade again, at Hurst Hills Elementary, auditioning for the talent show, I would choose Cha-Cha Slide! And don't ask me how or why, but yes, I know the entire dance that goes with it!

Who knew!?? Yes, while all of you normal people were spending family time at a cabin in the woods and singing your favorite campfire songs, I was dirty dancing. But hey, at least I can dance.

And sorry for you if you didn't spend every Friday night at the Skating rink! You missed out!

Amanda~ FUN FUN FUN! That made me think of when I taught school. I taught at a K-8 school and I ALWAYS volunteered to chaperone middle school dances. This was one of my favorite songs to dance to.
Good times. Good times!!!

I love that dance! I could never remember what the Charlie Brown step was when I did this dance, so now I remember after seeing the video. How do you load a video to your blog? Thanks for the fun! We need to have a fun, clean dance party sometime together...wouldn't that be fun! I love to dance too! I didn't know you liked to dance...I learn something new about you everyday :) Love ya!

oh man that cracked me up, I had to leave a comment even though I am normally just a reader and never leave comments....I just had to tell you how much that made me laugh. I did the same thing in elementary school, except with a girl I barely knew. We had matching shirts and we danced and lip synched to locomotive.....but picturing Nasty Boys at a elementary school talent show really made my day....thanks for the great story!
