My kids are on a mini vacation with their grandparents. They left right after the party on Saturday and I don't get them back until Wednesday. Total bliss, right? Well, no. I miss them. But, I have enjoyed some time alone and much needed time with my man! We've gone to Chuy's for delicious Mexican food and we even went to a movie!
As much as I enjoy the first couple of nights away from the kids, I get bored. So today I took two hours buying groceries from HEB just trying to keep busy. I planned a menu before I left, organized my list according to the layout of HEB (I actually always do this, does anyone else?)and even took the time to price every single produce item with the handy machine instead of making the cashier punch in the codes. With kids, there is no time to do this but today I had time! It was actually kind of fun putting the stickers on each produce bag and knowing exactly how much four Bartlet pears cost! I'm trying to eat more. Yes, I said EAT MORE. I don't starve myself by any means but I have a horrible habit of pigging out at dinner (dinner should NOT be your biggest meal) because I don't eat during the day or I run before dinner on an empty stomach. Not always but sometimes. So lately I have been spending a lot of time trying to figure out some snacks for me. I love radishes, they seem to satisfy me with their crunch and tiny bit of hotness. I like carrots but they don't do it for me! I absolutely hate apples unless it is a Green apple Jolly rancher (my favorite jolly rancher) or a candied apple (not caramel) so snacking on apples is out! But I love pears so I got a ton of pears. Oh and I got some almonds and pumpkin seeds. A hand full of those when I get hungry or before I run will help. By no means am I a health nut but all of the hard work I have put into running keeps me from wanting to eat junk. The only thing I forgot to buy was soy beans. If you have not had soybeans before, let me tell you that it is the best snack ever! I boil them and put salt in the water, then chow down. You can even buy them in the frozen section at pretty much any grocery store except for Wal Mart. I've never been able to find them there. Man I love those things and just thinking about it convinces me that I need to make another trip to HEB!
Jeremy is fighting a pretty bad cold so he came home early and for tonight's meal, we are having this. I am so in love with the Pioneer Woman's cooking blog that I am also making this on Thursday. I made these last week and I got the stuff to make more. Jeremy is a sweets addict so I figure these will cheer him while he is sick and if I can get a run in (it's raining right now), I might indulge too. Heck, who cares if I run, I'm eatin' 'em anyway!
So it's a little after 5pm, the potatoes are in the oven, Jeremy is watching the History Channel in bed (boring) and I think I may go run in the rain. I'll come back, make the twice baked potatoes and then watch one of my favorite shows, American Gladiator! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!! If I could be any gladiator, I think I would choose Crush or maybe HELLGA! And who doesn't like Wolf Man!??
Tomorrow is my last day of time alone and then back to the routine. I'm planning on a trip to Starbucks and spending the morning there with my iPod and Beth Moore's 90 Days With Jesus. Then maybe I can get a long run in before Jeremy gets home from work, watch American Idol with him and get excited about getting the kids back!!! Oh I can't wait! I miss them sooooooo much! I am so excited about getting back to our routine of homeschooling and I got some new supplies and materials that I can't wait to start using!
This time away from the kids is over rated. I need to come back and read this when I am crying for a break. Right? :) I did sleep in until 9:30am this morning but my kids already sleep until 8:30, sometimes 9 so big deal! Yes, I can lay on the couch and watch BRAVO TV all day long and night but so what! I can read an entire book, be romantic with my husband without trying to plan it and I can run in and out of a store without lugging three kids around. Yes, all great things. But, I miss them. I miss them a lot. Wednesday cannot come soon enough!
I am so bored that I am blogging about radishes for crying out loud!

I always make my lists according to the stores layout. It drives me crazy if I have to keep walking back and forth around the store (and don't comment about that late night Walmart trip)! :)
Heidi
I've done the same thing when my kids are away. It's even worse when Chris and I try to take a trip and the entire time we are talking about how we wish the kids were with us!
It's a sweet testimony to your love for them!
Isn't it funny how we want the break so badly and then we are like - bored. I do the same thing. Once in a while Dawson will go to grandparents to stay the night and we may not have plans or it is a week night - and I go stir crazy casue I am so used to him being here. Well, enjoy the day!

oh my gosh, is that you Heidi? Don't worry, i won't mention how we spent three hours in wal mart going back and forth from cold section to produce and from produce to craft section. And I won't mention how long we spent looking for red and green sprinkles! Don't worry, your secret is safe with me! :)
Its good for you to have that time away to rest and remember why you love having 3 children. They will be so blessed to come home to a Mom that loves them and is happy to see them. I had to go home from my weekend retreat on Saturday because I needed medicine and the hugs I got from both boys were what made me well. Not the medicine.
Red peppers are really good too, once you get tired of the radishes.
I've got my first scheduled away time coming up- my 4 year old is having the week with Grandma for the first time ever. I'm a little worried about how she'll do but I can't wait to be bored! :) It sounds fun!
Okay, I had to come back and say I made those cookies today. And then I ate them all. I'm so glad I didn't make very many.
