Okay, so last week I ran a total of almost eight miles but I could not put that on my counter because 2008 did not start until Tuesday. March is the 10k and it's in Austin/Hill Country and there will be HILLS galore! I have not run hills yet so I am a little scared! But, tonight I ran 5 miles and I had a twelve minute mile pace. I would like for that time to get better, obviously. Although, I am so proud of myself because Heidi and I were able to talk the entire time. I actually read an article in Runners World about running at a pace where you are able to talk. Heidi had to quit at about 2.5 miles because she is having some issues with her shins. I was really bummed because I felt so good and knew I could keep going. Thankfully, Heidi truly is my best friend because she quickly became my pace car and followed me around the neighborhood until I hit 5 miles. And we had her husband's really cool watch that has a GPS and it tells you how many miles you have gone. Every single time we hit a mile, it beeped! I LOVE IT!! I think the beep motivated me.
Tonight I have never felt so good running! I never once felt pain and I know I could have gone two more miles. I feel like I have finally earned the title of "Runner". The 10k is coming soon and after tonight's run, I'm really excited! My body has changed so much over the last seven months. I've never felt so good physically and mentally. God has changed me through this running! IT'S INCREDIBLE!

I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.

Awesome! It is such a good feeling.
The hills won't be bad during the race because you will have the added adrenaline, just keep your eyes on the top. You'll do great.
Way to go! I have to run long steep hills every day and had to work up to running them. The best way is to take is slow - add a little goal each time you run a hill. Also, once you tackle running up the hills, you can aim to sprint up the hills. I know that sounds just crazy, but it builds muscle where you need it for running, and so when you run a hill at a regular pace, it's not so rough at all. Just speaking from someone's tip to me which I have found to work.
For your friend Heidi, her shin pain is probably from her shoes. One year I had THE WORST shin splints. It was awful pain. I went to a running store and pured out my heart (and tears) and they fit me with the right shoe and you know, I never get them. The downside, is that you may have to pay a little more, but it's beyond worth the investment. :)
Have a great week! (I was actually going to write about running today!)
That's awesome!! It's really awesome that your friend followed you in the car! My husband and I are training for the 1/2 marathon here in Nashville at the end of April. We are so excited! Do you mind if I ask what kind of watch you borrowed? That sounds awesome!
That is so awesome! I must admit that I am jealous, my doctor doesn't want me running during my pregnancy, but once this baby is out, I will be running again! I think running at a pace that you can talk at is the best way to do it!
I am impressed. I ran for 5 minutes today and thought I was going to DIE!!!!! I am working toward 1 mile and then 2 then 3..... ugh! I can do this- and hopefully in the meantime those delicious Sweet Diva cakes and cookies will fall off my hips!
BTW- thank you for the Blog love! I am pretty sure that you are my only reader! :)
That is awesome!!!!!!! Way to go!
way to go! I am so jealous!
I was doing pretty good at running two summers ago but last summer I just lost it....turns out I have adrenal fatigue.
I'm working with a naturopath to get that fixed up and then I hope to run again...nothing beats that feeling!
