You have turned my mourning into dancing for me; You have put off my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, To the end that my tongue and my heart and everything glorious within me may SING praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever. Psalm 30:11-12

Kitchen Princess
So this morning we had a waffle party to kick off something fun I am doing with the kids starting Monday! I told the kids all about it over waffles. I thought it would be a perfect day to celebrate the occasion since it's Friday. Then I called my friend Julia at church and my friend Cathy answered. When I asked for Julia, she said "Julia doesn't work on Thursday but I will see if maybe she is here." What? Today isn't Friday? I know my friend only works at the church Mon., Wed., Fri.! Well crap! What the heck am I doing having a waffle party on Thursday?! This should have been a yogurt bar or pop tart day for sure! Thank goodness I did not put on my Friday panties that say "Friday" in sexy pink rhinestone letters! Perish the thought!
Ava Beth and Ezekiel chose waffles with whipped cream and strawberries while Josiah opted for waffles and syrup. I chose the waffles with whipped cream and strawberries! Jeremy laughs at my for always having a quart of whipping cream in the fridge but since I started making my own whipped cream last year, I can't bring myself to buy a container of cool whip. If you have a stand mixer, there is no excuse! You must make it because it is super easy and tastes so much better and your dinner guests are super impressed! :) Fresh strawberries would have been great but a frozen bag works just as good since they turn juicy after defrosting. Breakfast was divine! Heavenly I must say! And the defrost setting on your microwave will change your life forever!
Jeremy got me my waffle maker on last year's birthday and I use it at least three times a week. It is one of my favorite things in the kitchen! That and my kitchen sheers! I've gone crazy lately cutting the kid's jeans off, the boy's sleeves off and turning this Summer-bound family into a legless and sleeveless bunch! We feel much more free now.
Put some cinnamon and sugar and 1/2 tspn of vanilla in your batter and wow! Maybe some rum if you feel the kids are out of control and need a good nap. I use the Pioneer pancake mix and it is not in the pancake mix section. It's usually by the Bisquick which is by the flour and sugar on the baking aisle. I use it because it comes in a container instead of a box. This makes it so much easier than trying to get the mix out of the package which is in a box. Messy! And did you know that you don't have to mix your cinnamon and sugar together yourself? Nope! You can buy it in the spice section already together! As a kid I would watch my grandmother mix them in a container but now days you can buy it already married! They make a perfect match and seem to get along quite well with one another. Every "Kitchen Princess" needs some of this in their spice cabinet!
If you would like to make your own whipped cream, here's how you do it! First put on a very cute apron, some lip gloss and high heels. You will look really, really cute in the kitchen! Then go for it! You will never be the same!
1 cup of heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar
TINY bit of vanilla
First you mix the whipping cream on high speed until it is fluffy, very fluffy. It should actually peak or stick to your wire whisk like meringue. Then add the powd sugar and a TINY bit of vanilla. Mix it all together and mmmm....delicious! If you have a stand mixer, it's very easy. You turn that sucker on high with the wire whisk attachment and go about your business for about five minutes. Shoot, you could sit down for a cup of coffee, change a diaper, have a bowel movement (coffee will help in that process if you are irregular), take a five minute shower or whatever else while that stuff circles around in the mixing bowl. Don't try this if your mixer is handheld. I don't recommend a bathroom break if you are using your grandmother's old handheld mixer! You will definitely think twice about sitting on the toilet while making whipped cream again.
Now the reason I say TINY bit of vanilla is your cream will not turn out right if there is too much liquid. You will not have cream, you will have soup! (Right Frances? She knows! She saw me screw some up!) Most whipping cream recipes do not have vanilla listed as an ingredient but I think it tastes sooooo much better! People will think you are super talented and even suggest you getting your own cooking show on The FoodNetwork. Seriously! People think I am genius. And I am! So my friends, it helps to have some skills. Homemade whipped cream will help people recognize the incredibly gifted person that you are.
There you have it ladies! Now go have a waffle party of your own, invite some friends over for breakfast or brunch or have breakfast for dinner. Your hunk of burning love husband will probably offer to take you shopping after this! Master the art of waffle making and you too can be a domestic goddess!
Don't forget your lip gloss or you can forget being a "Kitchen Princess"!

Y*U*M*M*Y !! Have a good day!
Yum! I was going to ask for your recipe for whipped cream and there it was. yay! Thanks for the tips- my family would LOVE homemade waffles:-)
You go girl! I want to eat me up some yummo homemade whipped cream, strawberry waffles! When are you coming over?
Oh girl! I so need some kitchen help! Everyone I know is aware I am no cook! My neighbor jokes all the time asking if my oven has ever been turned on! (Yes it has but usually something frozen!) Oh if only you lived closer and could come over and give me some good cooking classes! I would love to get better!
Your breakfast sounds heavenly!
My MIL always makes her own whip cream and you are right, it is so much better and super easy! Although I am not the cook in our family, I can do it, but my hubby always puts vanilla in his pancake mix and he also prefers pioneer to bisquick, says it tastes better!
