drawing close

This morning as I wrote in my prayer journal, I asked God to help me draw near to my children just as He draws near to me. One of the most incredible things about having a relationship with Jesus is how He enters our world and meets us just where we are at. We just come as we are and He accepts us. He always communicates His love on a personal level. In a way He knows we'll "get it". He uses people, His Word, and the Holy Spirit to communicate. He reveals His love daily, but often we don't recognize it. I want to recognize His love. I want to see it! I want to hear it and touch it! So often I miss it!

For lunch today I went into the kitchen and decided to use the Pumpkin cookie cutter for the kid's PB&J sandwiches. Of course I knew they would love to drink their milk from pumpkin cups and those delicious cookies I baked last night would be the perfect treat for dessert. I didn't think twice about it. I didn't sit around wondering how to make lunch, I just did it. Even in the little things, the Holy Spirit took over and helped me draw close to my children in a simple lunch. And they loved it! They were so excited to eat their lunch. Someday I pray I will hear them talking to one another saying, "Hey, remember when Mom made those pumpkin shaped sandwiches and those yummy cookies? Remember the pumpkin cups? She always made it fun. She always showed her love in everyday things." I pray my children will also sit around someday talking about all the ways God showed His love to them. May they learn to see Him in the everyday things in life.

As I made this "fun" little lunch, I thought about how God enters my world. How He makes things fun for me! How he speaks in ways I will understand. He's so personal and He does it daily. He longs to be close to me. He longs to show His love. He longs for me to notice Him.

I set out today to draw close to my children. While doing so God showed me how He sets out daily to draw close to me.

Daily He shows up. Daily!

Love this! What an insightful post. It always thrills me to see how He relates my relationship with my daughters to His desire for relationship with me.

(And the cookies do look really yummy!)

I pray that same thing for my children. Being the primary influence in their life is both a burden and a blessing. What pressure!

But, I wouldn't have it any other way ;)

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" Proverbs 1:7

It truly is the most important thing and it is so easy to lose sight of that! Thanks for the sweet reminder.

You are such a good Mommy -- where did you learn how to do such good things with your children? You make me jealous that I didn't know how and had no way to do with you what you do for them. I am really proud of you.

By the way, your picture is not good for a WEIGHT WATCHER to look at. 20.5 lbs and at least that many more to go but I am HALFWAY there.

luv u
