Words cannot express the joy I feel when the air outside turns crisp. One would think that a born and raised Texas girl would love the Hot Summer or at least be accustom to it by now. But honestly, I've never liked the Summers. I feel as if Fall is when I come alive and when I am able to make the best memories!
As an elementary student, I remember my teachers changing the calender each month. You know the ones with colored butcher paper and the scalloped borders with cut outs of significant things for that particular month? Of course I loved the May Calender that reminded us all that we were in the last month of school before Summer break. But the month when leaves made out of construction paper appeared was the absolute best! From September on, the beauty of those decorated calenders in the classroom was my delight. Fall leaves were replaced by pumpkins and pumpkins were replaced by Pilgrims and cornucopias. Then it was Christmas Trees to countdown to Christmas break. Once December was over, the January calender was covered in snowflakes and February covered in hearts. Soon it was March with green shamrocks and April with raindrops and a day with my name on it. For April is my Birthday! And last but not least it was May with a big, bright, yellow Sunshine! I've been thinking about these school day calenders a lot lately and bringing the joy of the changing months into my own home with my own children. This is something we could have a lot of fun with!
We live pretty close to a High School Football Stadium and before we moved, we lived close to one too. Something about those Friday night lights in Texas makes me want to load the kids up and head to the football game in the cool, crisp air. Of course there are Sunday afternoons of the Dallas Cowboys over a homemade bowl of Chili or stew. Or maybe Frito pie or tortilla soup! Then there is the annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch and bringing home a few pumpkins. One for carving for the kids enjoyment and so I can roast pumpkin seeds. Yummy! Then there is the one big pumpkin to go outside for some of my Fall decoration. There's the trip to Bath and Body works to buy Pumpkin Spice pump soap for the kitchen and guest bathroom. Pumpkin bread, Pumpkin cupcakes, Pumpkin shaped cookies and Halloween Costumes. And this is the weekend I make my husband get my storage container down from the attic that is full of my Fall decor. Wrought iron pumpkins, Fall Themed dish towels for the kitchen and a Fall wreath for the front door. Garden Ridge will soon have a crazy 72 hour sale and Hobby Lobby will have Fall stuff 50% off at least a couple of times. This is the stuff I dream about and love!
Fall, it's a kiss from Heaven and it's the perfect time to Bake!
(The picture above was taken two years ago in my front yard. I was so excited to see those leaves FALLING.)

This post got me all excited! We've had some cool, crisp Fall mornings this week...LOVE IT!! Alf is sad because that means official wakeboard season is over, but it also means that it is time for me to DECORATE!! Can't wait!! All I have to say is WHO IS GOING TO MAKE THE MANY TRIPS TO HOBBY LOBBY WITH ME THIS YEAR?!?!?!?! :)
I want to come to your house! I have the very same feelings about the upcoming season! I love this time of year...everybody seems so giddy about what is to come. Love it!
I'm with you... I am invigorated by the change of the seasons, and seem to always have a few projects going on this time of year:-)
I was just wondering if it is too early to get out the fall tub of decorations- I guess not! I may go for it this weekend, too!
Oh, you are a kindred spirit.
Fall is my favorite season by far. I love the crisp air, the changing trees, making my apple bread pudding, wearing sweaters, and getting all cozy under a blanket to watch a movie.
Minnesota is the best to see fall colors- especially if you go up to the North Shore (on Lake Superior). It's amazingly beautiful. WE get too long for winter and too short for summer, but we can do fall well here. (And spring too, btw! With so many lakes and bikers- how could we not?)
I've always said that if I ever get married- I'd want to do it in the fall- it'd be so pretty!
I already stuck my scarecrow in the garden and am getting SO EXCITED as well! I am totally with you on the smells, cool air, oh and don't forget the BOOTS! My favorite part of this time of year is getting dressed!!! :o)
This time of year always makes me feel better. Yesterday here in Dallas was beautiful and I was in a great mood all day. I didn't even mind running!
I can't wait for winter!
I completely agree with you about fall!! I LOVE fall and this time of year! I am not a big fan of Summer either. I grew up here in SC so you would think I would be use to the humidity and heat. Not this girl!
Blessings to you and yours~
Karen
