Okay, so here's my top ten I listened to in bed last night. I am seriously the biggest night owl you'll ever meet so with my husband sleeping soundly next to me, I like to listen to my iPod. I'm married to the biggest morning person you'll ever meet. God does have a sense of humor, doesn't he?! But here are some songs l love and songs I am able to put a story with or relate to in some sort of way. Listening to these songs last night reminds me of how much I LOVE music.
My Top Ten
I don't Know Why by Shawn Colvin- There are those songs you find and from the first note you hear, you are moved. This song moves me and reaches a place in my heart I did not even know was there. Every single word resonates with me. I could probably write an entire blog on this song but I won't. I love the guitar solo too. Ahhhhh. I love this song.
When We Dance by Sting- Back in my dating years, I was the girl that always dated the jerks that never treated me right. When a nice guy came along, I never fell hard enough. Some of the lyrics in this song make me think of how Jeremy was finally the nice guy, the perfect guy that totally and completely swept me away. Last night as I was listening to this song, I felt so blessed to be laying next him. WOW, I love that man more than I ever knew I could love someone! And believe it or not, we fell in love on the dance floor at Cowboys in Arlington, Texas.
Carol of the Bells by The Bird and The Bee- (free single right now on iTunes) In eighth grade, I sang this song in Choir and then I remember hearing it on Home Alone. It's a very popular Christmas song and soooooo much fun to sing. I absolutely LOVE this version. When I hear this, I just see New York City, snow and me shopping with my friend Tiffany. :) It may be because we are going to New York City next year!
Old Man's Rubble by Amy Grant- Okay, I can admit it! I was once an Amy Grant fanatic. When she was on Oprah yesterday, I pretty much cried the whole time. She is one amazingly talented woman! To be able to write, play and sing is miraculous to me. I still want to be like Amy Grant when I grow up. Oh and who doesn't like Old Man's Rubble?! I always need a good kick in the butt to remind me NOT to listen to the wrong thing and keep my mind on what God's word says. The truth!
Go Rest High On That Mountain by Vince Gill- Okay the lyrics are pretty tough to listen to. Grab a kleenex! But Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless singing with him blows me away! The harmony is so tight and clean that it gives me chill bumps all over. And it was total accident that I had Amy AND Vince on the same playlist! :)
Refiner's Fire by Brian Doerksen- I remember singing this song as a teenager at Dawson McCallister and then I know we sang it at Youth Camp when a girl named Wendy came and lead us with her guitar. Well, I am singing it tomorrow with my friend Drew. Just me, him and his guitar. I am so glad he chose this song for this week's set because it has really ministered to me. I love the line that says, I choose to be Holy, Set apart for you my Master, Ready to do your will. This song anyone can worship to! Wow. Oh and this is another that has a beautiful guitar part. Chillbumps again!
Walk By Faith by Jeremy Camp- (This should be #1 on my list because it's become my theme song!)This another song I am singing tomorrow with Drew. Of course this is another song that has really, really touched me over the last few days. It reminds me of our move to Austin for a church plant and walking through the changes God has just brought our way. We moved here for something and God apparently brought us here for something different. We did not see it coming at all. If you would have told me that we would not be church planting, I would think we would be moving back to Dallas. This situation has broken me for many reasons and seems to be still breaking me. My relationships have changed, my kids are asking why they have not seen their friends and so much more. I've been hurting a lot over the past two days and THIS song brings healing. I am so excited to see what God does with my family next.
O Little Town Of Bethlehem- By Sarah McLachlan- Another song I am singing tomorrow. I am really excited about the simplicity of this song. I love the Wintersong cd and as I have written before, I have found myself worshipping to these classic Christmas songs. I've had a chance to really study these lyrics and now they mean so much more. One line that has really stuck out to me is So God imparts to human hearts the blessing of heaven. I think we are so clueless as to what really happens when we invite Jesus Christ into our hearts as Lord and Savior. I know I am.
That's Right (You're Not From Texas) by Lyle Lovett- Well in case you didn't already know, I am proud to be a Texan. I tease Jeremy all the time because he was not born here so I tell him he's not a real Texan. But he got here at two and if you heard him talk, you would think he was as Texas as they come. We have a lot of blondes (mostly fake ones), high heels, boots and chicken fried steak! I love living in the Chicken Fried nation! This is the place where women go to Wal Mart all dressed up! Well, not as much in Austin but for sure in Dallas! :) I love it! And I've always loved Lyle, even when he was married to Julia Roberts.
1 2 3 4 by Feist- Not really much to share about this song except that our baby, Ezekiel, loves it. When it comes on, he stops and listens. It's really cute to watch! And listen to the song and you will love it too. It's pretty cool.
And there is my top ten!
