Well, today was our first official "homeschooling" day! This morning we worked on reading and the task given in the book. I have never seen Josiah get so excited over learning in order to earn a GOOD JOB sticker! He's a boy so he gets distracted or frustrated when I have to correct him on mistakes. But, man! He is SO SMART! I knew he was smart but I don't think I realized how sharp he is. We stopped a couple of times and I made him stand up and get his wiggles out. I reminded him that he was going to be able to read books and earn prizes and treats while doing so. At one point I said, "That is a very good ssssssssss Josiah" and he said, "I'm Spiderman, not Josiah." Hey, I'll take whatever I can get! "Okay. Good sssssssss Spiderman." If you don't understand why I am not saying, "Good job writing the letter S" it has to do with the DISTAR system. I am loving this book, loving this time with Josiah and honestly, it makes me feel like I am doing what God called me to do.
I've been meeting so many homeschooling moms at my church and I can't wait for Kindergarten to begin in September!! I'm extremely proud of Josiah but I gotta say, I'm proud of me too. This week I am ordering some of my stuff from A Beka. I so wish I would have been doing this since the Fall but I'm going to go ahead and get the student kit for PreK and in Sep. we will start the Kindergarten material. A Beka is supposed to be one of the harder ones but all of the homeschoolers around me are using this one and they love it. Manuscript in kindergarten! Wow! We will see how that goes. :) But that is the great thing about homeschooling! FREEDOM and CREATIVITY! A Beka is also the one I had researched last year before we moved to Austin and the one I originally decided to do so I feel good about it.
So excited!
(Oh and guess who is learning along with him? Ava Beth! This is the amazing thing about it. I think the younger kids are going to get just as much. I know many of you homeschoolers have said this and it's true! I just heard Ava Beth say to Josiah, "Look at my letters. I write my letters!" And then he says, "Good job Sissy. Very good job!")

*clap* *clap* on an awesome first day!!! That's awesome. I'm using the A Beka pre-K right now and the boys love it.
Awesome! So glad you started!! Can't wait to hear all about it!
Yay! So glad you are enjoying homeschooling. My daughters' scholl uses the Abeka program and I have been so impressed by it and all they have learned.
It must be so exciting to see Josiah learning with you at home- what a thrill to be the one to teach him:-)
That is great!
If you don't have one yet, order a catalog from Rainbow Resources (look online, it's free). They have everything you can think of and their prices are good.
YAY!! So glad to hear how your 1st day went!! :)
