How's School going?

So everyone has been asking, "How's School going?" Well, it's going great! I went to my friend Wendy's blog today hoping she had post some pictures of what they've been doing. She provides a lot of encouragement and creative ideas for me through her blog. I was delighted to see she had posted some pictures and shared an idea that I will be stealing! I've been taking pictures like crazy trying to capture these moments with my children in our little school. We are experiencing so much joy together so I wanted to share. Daily I am praying God will give me creative ideas in teaching them His word and in teaching Josiah Kindergarten. He hasn't failed me!

A couple of things you will see in this picture. This is our bulletin board and it's directly in front of us as we learn. The Dollar Tree has been an incredible resource for me. Do you see the sunshine cut out? Well I got it there in a package full of weather stuff. So one of the things we have been doing is changing it daily according to the weather. Today it rained but it's also cloudy AND sunny. Josiah said we need a raindrop, the sun and a cloud. This picture was taken on a sunny day! Dollar Tree also had some cut-outs of things for the Presidential election so I can use this pretty soon to talk to Josiah about a new President. I'm planning on doing some fun stuff for the Fall! I can't wait!!

Do you see the word Joy? Well, we have been working on the fruits of the spirit and it's working great because I can apply it to almost every thing we do in our home. Josiah and Ava Beth are beginning to talk to each other about these fruits. For example, the week we did LOVE, Josiah said to Ava Beth, "Sissy, you are not showing love with that tone of voice." :) And He now talks a lot about showing love by sharing his toys. I love how he is making a connection to the stuff he is learning. He has a relationship with it! This is what I think TRUE learning is all about!!

Here is Josiah reading out of the TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ IN 100 EASY LESSONS. This book is amazing! He is beginning to read almost everything fast. And I love how he has figured out how to sound the word out without sounding it out-loud. He thinks about it, then he says it out-loud. Reading is something I can tell He will be very good at!

Writing in his Nature Journal! He loves this thing! We also have some leaves we have put in here and he has drawings of squirrels and turtles from the park.

Our first week of school we talked about "love" as one of the fruits of the spirit. When I asked Josiah how we could show people we love them, he said "We could bake them cookies." So I decided we would do just that! We baked a ton of cookies and then I asked him who he wanted to show his love to. He named a family at church. So guess what? They got a plate FULL of cookies! We also took a plate to our neighbors. Josiah has not quit talking about this. He loved doing this for our friends and for our neighbor.

I love that your little guy decided on his own how to show love, and who to love, with a plate of cookies. It says a lot about his little character that he is still talking about it. How sweet.

What I like is those cookies =) We made cookies last night and they were the frozen in a box M&M ones. My kids think that means Mom baked.

Ha! Actually last year I made your Halloween ones from scratch with oranges and brown M&Ms. So maybe I will do that again. Once a year is all the baking I can handle.

We started a Nature Journal too (after hearing all about yours) and the boys love it. It's our most favorite part of school time. You're doing an awesome job!

Josiah, MiMi is so proud of you. I love hearing about how you are learning so much -- especially about love. I am sure Mommy will read to you the LOVE chapter in the Bible. The Bible says FAITH, HOPE and LOVE and the greatest of these is LOVE.

I love you, Josiah. I am so proud of you and I can't wait to hear you read me a story and see what all you can write now.
