Well, the last 8 years have been awful and our president was terrible, so if Barack is similar, at least things can't get any worse.

(I know you won't agree with this and you don't like people who disagree on your blog, but that is what I think.)

Thank you Olive for the comment but you are absolutely wrong in saying I don't like people who disagree in my blog. I welcome it. I don't like people who won't post their name and do it anonymously.

George W. Bush did not support abortion or gay marriage. Those are issues that scare me based on this video. The economy, war on terror, taxes, education and everything is a whole different set of issues. Obama is as liberal as it gets. THAT I do not support.

Thank you for posting your name. I do encourage you to blog about how you feel. This is why I love that this is MY blog and I get to post what I want to share.

I cannot contain myself...ANY of you (male or female) who read this blog and call yourselves, "Christians" - YOU MUST CALL OUT FOR HIS MERCY IN THE COMING DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS AND YEARS!

We have no other recourse, but to HUMBLE ourselves and PRAY that He does not "turn us over to a reprobate mind..." (Romans 1:28)

Now is NOT the time to be lukewarm...I BEG of you...BE HOT or BE COLD...DARE to SPEAK the name of JESUS in PUBLIC while we still can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amanda, I don't blog b/c I tried and just don't have the time. I wish I did. :(

I understand your dislike for Barack, and I agree he's VERY liberal. But, that being said, sometimes the country just needs something different and I am going to hope that he can do just that. And, in 4 or 8 years, we'll need something else different. Too much control for one party is never a good thing. I do think that these last 8 years have been atrocious (sp?) and I will be glad to see President Bush leave office.

I don't necessarily agree 100% (and I am not Catholic but a born-again Believer), but I found these articles interesting: http://ncronline3.org/drupal/?q=node/2058 and http://blog.beliefnet.com/stevenwaldman/2008/10/can-democrats-reduce-abortion.html. (re: abortion)

The reason I said you don't like people who disagree [to comment] on your blog is b/c over the years I've seen you get a bit riled up (I say this with all respect- it's your blog and I love it and you can do what ever you want) and turn off comments b/c sometimes you don't want to hear what "the other side" is (which, again is your right to do so), so I assumed this might be a similar time. And, maybe I never noticed that your olny issue was when people didn't post thier names. Though, you did keep your commments on this time so maybe when you don't want to hear someone disagree you turn them off. But, again, I've been reading for years, and I love your blog. I just wanted to say what I thought but be respectful to your space.

:)

I turn the comments off because I can. I turn the comments off because sometimes I don't want someone taking over the comments like you have just done with how you feel.

It's my blog. It's my "freedom" to write what I am feeling.

Olive,

The term "pragmatic" is one that Obama uses quite frequently. It is a great term when dealing with issues of the work ethic and public policy or even economics. When used this way it refers to a practical way of doing things, often producing a desired result.

However, when the church applies this same methodology, we find ourselves caught in a whirlwind of man-centered theology. Is there actually a "man" who can solve the problems here on this earth? Should we (in the church) even consider a man-centered plan before His holy word? Aren't we a people tainted by sin and selfish agendas? Because of a sinful nature, if left to our own desires, won't our motives always bend in our own direction?

So. In the area of this election, Amanda (as well as countless other professing Christ-followers) feel compelled to choose the candidate who most closely shares their views in regard to moral issues as well as economic and foreign policy issues. Because we are called to hate sin, there should be a means to battle that. Choosing a president who openly embraces one of the most heinous crimes against the unborn is just not an option.

Would the next 4 years have been "better" with a Republican president? Who knows? I don't believe Amanda's primary reason for voting for McCain was because she just knew he would do everything right.

Christians who vote conservatively, do so because we believe that we have been purchased at a high price. Because God's wrath towards sin was poured out on His son, we cannot live our life professing His name, yet turn our heads at sin.

You said, "this country just needs something different".

This country needs to fall on it's face before a holy God and repent. We need to make choices that honor God and welcome the persecution that comes with that.

I am not afraid of Obama as president. I still serve the same God today as I did yesterday.

I am sad, however that so many professing Christians have made clear where they place their hope.

Thank you, Olive for commenting and at least the willingness to share your views.

Blessings.

This election has saddened me more than any other. I am struggling with resenting those professing Christians who chose this man, despite his clear support of things we should violently oppose.

I am so disapointed, I need to pray for acceptance and to let go of the resentment I feel for this choice. I reminded my daughters that God is always in control of our life, and that we are commanded to pray for our leader... I'm not feeling it but will choose to obey.

Kim...well said.

Satan would want nothing more than to have believers "shoot one another in the trenches" right now. Certainly, each person has his own "walk", but I challenge those of you who feel God calling you closer...RUN TO HIM NOW while He's still speaking! I personally have sat on the sidelines far too long and regret it...now is the time to be FILLED with HIM so that we can make a loving, meaningful and eternal difference in this world!

PRAY...LOVE...GO! :)

I just want to tell you Olive, thank you. Thank you for showing how you feel in love. If I have not been very good at that, if I seem harsh, please forgive me.

Now is the time to love on each other!!

Amanda I'm glad you apologized because I think you were uncessesarily harsh on Olive, who like me has been a long time reader but infrequent commenter due to the same reasons she posted.

Hope I'm not take over your comments too much ;-)

I love you girl and I didn't watch this video but I have to say that I have heard so many people say things about Obama that simply are not true. A lot of people are listening to yellow journalism. The other thing is that you can vote for a democrat and be a Christian...I did.

Having said that I do respect your right to a differing opinion.

Again thank you nadine and i welcome your comments.

I do have a question Nadine. Why do you read my blog? Just curious. :)

Unknown said...

Thank you Gwen. I totally agree with you regarding things being said about Obama that were not true. It's done and over with but the things that scared me about him were the things that came from his mouth not journalists. The same thing happen to Sarah Palin too. That woman I really feel for. She has been attacked, her family has been attacked and they lost. I'm sad for her.

Gwen we have known each other through the blogging world for a long time now and I thank you for sticking around and using respectful words even though you don't agree with me.

Amanda, you know what? I really enjoy your personality. I do. I relate to you in that you are a wife and mother trying to do right by God and her family. Also, I can be incredibly nosey at time and love to see what goes on in other people's lives.I don't know what else to say, but something keeps me coming back here. I was disheartened to see what seemed to be a mean streak directed to Olive, but you've apolized and I don't believe you are really a meant person. Sorry so long winded. Hope you don't mind me visiting and sometimes commenting.

Thank you Nadine. Thank you for showing me grace. This morning started off kind of rough for me but I soon got my mind submitted to the the Holy Spirit. I read again what I wrote to Olive and I for sure sounded on the defense and that was wrong. No excuses!! :)

Through the years I have personally been attacked on my blog and it's hard. It's really hard. I constantly ask God, "WHY HAVE YOU GIVEN ME THIS VOICE? WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO SHARE THIS?" Believe it or not I actually pray about what to post. I've missed the target several times but I try to only post what I feel God would have me post.

I try to blog about the "process" not just the outcome. My process is not always one people agree with. But I share it.

Thank you for allowing me to share the process and showing respect for me. I appreciate you for that and you have really spoken volumes to me about how I myself need to be careful with my words.

I pray I can always have a teachable spirit and learn from everyone God puts in my path.

Thank you again Nadine for commenting!!!

Amanda,

Apology accepted. I apologize too if I came off as offensive, I certainly wasn't meaning to.

:) Blessings to you!

p.s. My word verification word (to post on your blog) right now is "trial", lol! A bit "appropriate", huh?

Thank you for such a sweet post. I think you are definitely gifted and anointed of God. He has given you a voice. He is refining and preparing you - I truly believe that. Keep holding on to Him! I think that's another reason why I'm attracted to this blog; you are transparent and you let us see the process. It's like we as readers are along for the journey with you. Your lessons become our lessons. Keep doing what you do - you are blessed.
