The Ministry of Motherhood

I began reading another Sally Clarkson book yesterday for my devotion time each morning.  I love how her books have a time of meditation after each chapter because it forces me to look up scripture and journal.  I can tell such a difference in my day.  She asks you to read the verse below and then asks what this verse implies about your ministry of motherhood.

Psalm 127:3-5 (The Message)

3-5 Don't you see that children are God's best gift?
the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?
Like a warrior's fistful of arrows
are the children of a vigorous youth.
Oh, how blessed are you parents,
with your quivers full of children!
Your enemies don't stand a chance against you;
you'll sweep them right off your doorstep.

This verse reminds me of what an honor it is to serve my children.  I can look back over the past few years and understand why God was calling me away from all ministry outside of my home.  It doesn't mean I am not available to serve others outside of my home.  It means my primary ministry, my passion is to be towards my husband and children.  I can't believe how much God has "gently" changed me.  I no longer find myself craving time away from my children or feeling stressed because of my responsibilities.  Instead I have energy and excitement for training these precious disciples of Jesus Christ.  I love how Sally has taught to me to look at my children like Jesus would look at his disciples.  My life has been transformed through Motherhood.  I have found a whole new passion in life that is better than any thing I have ever done.  I would give up worship leading, marathon running and a tiny figure all over again to be the WHOLEHEARTED Mother He created me to be.  For the fruit of my womb is a GENEROUS LEGACY!

Today I approach this world with a fistful of arrows!  Look out Satan!

Love this book! Mine is mostly highlighted and underlined, so much of it spoke to me.

So awesome to see our enthusiasm for motherhood...if only every mother cared so much! What a different world we would live in.
